When workers at the Novosibirsk Zoo in the city of Novosibirsk, Russia, observed Nika, a baby lynx, being ignored by her birth mother, employees put their heads together to figure out how to save the little cub. The runt of her litter, Nika’s mother had virtually rejected her, making it evident that she wouldn’t survive without a surrogate. Enter, a domesticated cat.
One zoo employee had the idea to introduce her very own feline to Nika. The cat had just given birth to a litter of her own kittens, and all involved hoped that she would form a bond with the little one. Good news: she did! The cat quickly adopted Nika as her own – feeding her, grooming her, and tending to her like one of her own. And Nika? Well, she’s growing stronger every day, and has her adoptive mama to thank for her progress and survival.
