Lucky the dog and some of his furry friends, all survivors of abuse, are featured in a 2007 calendar that will raise money for a new animal shelter in Decatur, Ala.
Lucky earned national attention 10 months ago when a bystander found his mangled body stuffed in a trash bag inside a garbage bin.
Veterinarians helped the mutt regain his strength and he now has a happy new home – and a spot on the calendar’s cover.
Sixteen other animals also appear in the “Lucky & Friends” calendar from the Animal Services Advisory Board, an Alabama animal welfare organization. The calendar will show what can happen when animals receive proper care, veterinarian Steve Osborne, president of the group responsible for the calendar, told the Decatur Daily.
The organization has pledged $200,000 toward the city’s new shelter, which is projected to cost $1.2 million, Osborne said.
