Bunny Expo Is A Day Of Fun And Learning For And About Rabbits

The Bunny Bunch’s Bunny Expo on October 11 gives rabbit owners a chance to have an outing with their pet, learn about rabbits, shop and have fun!

The arrival of fall means it’s time for the Bunny Expo at Bunny Bunch in Orange County, California. The nonprofit group that rescues and adopts out bunnies, guinea pigs and chinchillas has quite an event planned for October 11. If you’re wondering, yes, visitors can bring their own bunnies (your guinea pigs, chinchillas and rats are also welcome).

“There will be all kinds of fun things for people’s rabbits,” said Caroline Charland, founder of the Bunny Bunch. “Halloween or Fall photo shoot, bunny spa, agility training. Plus bunny daycare so people can attend the classes.”

The day begins with free health classes from not one, not two, not three but FOUR guest speakers. Dr. Pluskat talks about gastrointestinal stasis in rabbits beginning at 10 a.m., Dr. Roberts talks about health checks for rabbits at 10:40 a.m., Dr. Kanfer discusses rabbit health emergencies at 11:20 a.m. and Dr. Steele speaks about physical therapy for rabbits at 12 p.m.

From noon until 5, it’s all about fun. Visitors can spoil their rabbit or guinea pig at the bunny spa (nail trims, coat brushing and scent gland cleaning), have their pet’s Halloween or Fall photo taken by a professional photographer, bid on some amazing items in a huge silent auction, train their rabbit on a bunny agility course (yes, this means rabbits hopping obstacles), shop at the Bunny Bunch Boutique for rabbit merchandise, feed the adoptable bunnies and more! Some activities require a donation or fee.

And there’s still more to explore.

“We will have a fabulous silent auction, raffle, guess how many poops in a jar, etc.,” Charland added.

It sounds like quite a lot, so I asked Charland if it was the biggest expo ever.

“No it’s not,” she said. “It’s just at a different location. Bigger than the ones we have done the last three years, but before that we did some big ones.”

She is hoping for a turnout of more than 100 people and, of course, lots of bunnies.

Bunny Bunch Rescue Realizes A Dream With Second Location

In previous years, the Bunny Expo has been held at the organization’s founding location in Montclair that opened in 2007. This year, it’s being held at the Fountain Valley location, which opened in 2012. The address is 10534 Bechler River Avenue. You read that right, the Bunny Bunch operates two separate, stand-alone adoption centers. And it all operates on donations, on grants and on profits from the Bunny Bunch Boutique.

What’s at the boutique?

“Great hay, treats, toys carrot houses,” Charland said. “We have some new litter boxes and carriers from Europe, bunny beds, gift items, jewelry.”

There’s quite a lot, and you can see some at their online store, too.

The latest Bunny Bunch calendar will debut at the Bunny Expo on October 11.

Vegan cupcakes, snacks, iced coffee and drinks will be available. Also, a vegan lunch catered by the Veggie Grill will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. for a $5 donation. There will even be a vegan cake to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the organization, which first started in 1984. Charland explained that this year actually marks the 31st anniversary, but the celebration got missed last year.

Other big news for this event is that it will be the debut of the Bunny Bunch 2016 calendar. Profits from sales go to the help the rabbits at the Bunny Bunch.

If you can’t make the October 11 event, Charland said that other events will happen soon in both the Fountain Valley and Montclair locations. For one thing, the Hoppy Hour returns to both locations beginning in November. Hoppy Hour is when rabbit owners bring in their pets to socialize in a play area with other people’s rabbits.
