Georgia Bradley swears that a small black dog saved her from being attacked on a beach in Greece, and she’s decided to return the favor, saving the dog from a life on the streets.
Bradley and her boyfriend were vacationing on the Greek island of Crete and, while he sat in a cafe nearby, she decided to walk on the beach, The Telegraph reports. She said she was quickly confronted by two men who asked her to get a drink with them, and when she refused, they got aggressive, grabbing her roughly by the arm.
“I was on my own, and it was a very scary and difficult situation,” she told The Telegraph.
But Bradley said a stray dog, who must have sensed that something was wrong, ran onto the beach and started barking, saving her.
The dog, whom she named Pepper, followed her back to her apartment. Although the dog was wary of humans and initially wouldn’t let Bradley touch her, she still felt a connection with the little stray.
“When we left to go to the airport, we looked back and Pepper was running after the car,” Bradley told the UK-based news site. “It was heartbreaking.”
When the 25-year-old returned to her home in Cornwall, England, she couldn’t stop thinking about Pepper. She took two more trips to Crete and spent five weeks — and thousands of dollars — trying to find her. Strangely enough, Bradley was reunited with Pepper on the same beach where she says the dog had protected her from those potential attackers.
After having the dog microchipped and vaccinated and allowing her to be quarantined for 21 days, Pepper was allowed to enter the United Kingdom. And, just a week after landing in her new home, she gave birth to a litter of puppies. Hopefully they’ll grow up to be as brave and special as their mom is.
