Despite a tiny puppy body with multiple deformities, Bonsai the Bulldog has the heart of a courageous warrior.

Bonsai was born to a breeder in Arkansas on April 27, 2015, and has been diagnosed with a human condition called Caudal Regression Syndrome (sacral agenesis) and Sacrocaudal Dysgenesis, with a variation of Spina Bifida, according to his Facebook page. This means that Bonsai was born with only half his spine, no pelvis and contracted hind legs.

That’s a struggle, but that’s not all. Bonsai also has Swimmer’s Syndrome, which causes his chest to flatten and his front legs to splay out, according to his Facebook page. This puts pressure on his internal organs, but it can be reversed with time and therapy.

Bonsai is currently being cared for by Friends of Emma, a private rescue home in Fort Worth, Texas, that helps dogs with special needs.

Last month he had his hind legs amputated, and according to his Facebook page, he is recovery well, but needs ongoing treatment.

Friends of Emma has started a fundraising page on YouCaring, where people can donate to cover the costs of his care.

“Bonsai’s condition is not merely a matter of having no rear legs… but the lack of a huge portion of his spine and no functional pelvis throws so many more variables and uncertainties into the mix,” Friends of Emma writes on YouCaring.

This little guy deserves a happy and full life, and you can help him have just that.
