Blue Buffalo is recalling one lot of its Blue Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs due to concerns it might contain elevated levels of naturally-occurring beef thyroid hormones.
Specifically, the Wilton, Connecticut, company is recalling 12-ounce cans with the following UPC and Best Buy Date:
- UPC – 840243101153
- Best By Date – June 7, 2019 (found on the bottom of the can)
Dogs ingesting high levels of beef thyroid hormones may exhibit increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness, according to a press release issued by the company. These symptoms may go away after you stop feeding the recalled food. However, with prolonged consumption, these symptoms may increase in severity and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or difficulty breathing. Discontinue feeding your dog the food if you notice any of these symptoms and contact your dog’s veterinarian immediately.
The FDA advised Blue Buffalo of a single consumer who reported symptoms in one dog, which has now fully recovered. The company said it immediately began an investigation and issued the recall.
Pet owners who have purchased the food should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Blue Buffalo at 866-201-9072 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at CustomerCare@bluebuffalo.com for more information.
This is the second recall Blue Buffalo issued in the last month. In February, the company recalled 12.5-ounce cans of its Blue Buffalo Homestyle Recipe Healthy Weight Chicken Dinner with Garden Vegetables due to concerns it might contain aluminum.
