Betty White will be taking the stage in Los Angeles, for the inaugural American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards on Oct 1. She will be joined by an incredible group of individuals including the star of “It’s Me or the Dog,” Victoria Stilwell, celebrity judge Whoopi Goldberg and Rin Tin Tin.
Betty, who has served as the President Emeritus of Morris Animal Foundation, is no stranger to the animal community. A long-time supporter and national spokesperson for Guide Dogs for the Blind, her own adopted dog Pontiac is a career change Golden Retriever adopted from that organization (it seems she is still a “golden” girl after all).
“I just love dogs and all they do for people,” says Betty, who is thrilled to be a presenter for the first ever American Hero Dog Awards. She is honored for the opportunity to share the stage with dog heroes such as with Roselle, a guide dog who led her blind master down 1,463 stairs to survival just before the collapse of the World Trade Center.
The American Humane Association is equally excited for Betty’s involvement. “It may be Hot in Cleveland this summer but we think it’s going to be even ‘Hotter in Hollywood’ as animal champion and American icon Betty White is welcomed on our stage” says Robin Ganzert, Ph.D., President and CEO.
The Hero Dog Awards are a celebration of the powerful relationship between dogs and people and will be broadcast on Hallmark Channel on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2011. You can nominate a dog for an award through June 17 at Hero Dog Awards.
