Interested in learning dog training and grooming tips from the pros? Want to learn about canine sports or see police dogs in action? Then check out one of more than 200 free events being held across the country throughout September as part of the American Kennel Club’s Responsible Dog Ownership Days initiative.
The events are “perfect for anyone looking to add a new canine family member, learn about AKC events or who just desires a fun day out with their dog,” says AKC spokeswoman Lisa Peterson.
Each Responsible Dog Ownership Days event is unique but many include rally, obedience and agility demonstrations, “meet the breed” events, free or low-cost microchip clinics, breed rescue information, therapy dog or service dog demonstrations, health clinics, kids activities and giveaways.
“Dogs are considered to be members of the family and the best way to return the love of your dog is to be a responsible owner,” Peterson says. “We encourage everyone to attend an AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days event near them to both have fun and learn about all the different ways to have fun and do more” with their pets.
The AKC will celebrate its own Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 25. The event will feature a “meet the breeds” event, agility and obedience demonstrations, low-cost microchipping, goodie bags and more.
