Over the last two weeks, the world’s finest athletes have competed against each other in the hopes of winning a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. And while their feats of strength and skill are certainly impressive, they’ve got nothing on another group of competitors who are sure to win you over with their astonishing athleticism — and adorableness.
Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the Hamster Summer Games.
In what was surely the most fiercely furry competition of the summer, six Syrian hamster pups from Cheeks and Squeaks Hamsters gave it their all in three sporting events: gymnastics, track and field, and swimming and diving.
Bartholomew Stinkleberry represented the United States, despite a previous injury to his hammie that reportedly cost him the gold medal in the last Hamster Games. Everyone was on the edge of their seats to see if the hammie would hold. He was joined by Greta Von Shimpleton of Great Britain, Evelyn Squeakerson of Canada, Min Lau of China, Ignacio Posperico of Brazil and Gregory “Jumping Gee Willikers” Willikers of Australia.
The gymnastic competition started off slow as the hammie athletes struggled to find their footing.
They hit their stride at the track and field event, with a few absolutely destroying the hurdles (literally).
The pups were neck and neck by the time they got to the swimming and diving portion, but then some got a little too comfortable in the pool.
In the end, it was Stinkleberry of the U.S. of A. who took home the gold. Great Britain clinched the silver and Brazil brought home the bronze. They all, however, are winners in our eyes.
