ASPCA Selects Dog, Cat Photo Contest Winners

The animal welfare organization chooses 10 winners in its 2008 "My Furry Valentine” online photo contest.

More than 900 love-struck pet owners submitted photos of their pets in the ASPCA’s 2008 “My Furry Valentine” online photo contest in February. This week, the ASPCA announced the winners of the contest, all of whom will receive an ASPCA T-shirt, plush toy, and wristband, as well as a copy of “The Emotional Lives of Animals” by Marc Bekoff.

“Unconditional love is a hallmark of any strong relationship,” said Ed Sayres, ASPCA president and CEO. “The winners of this year’s photo contest were selected not only for their irresistible mugs, but also for their stories, which highlight the lasting bond we all share with our four-legged friends.”

The contest winners included Riley, a Basset Hound; Griffon, a tabby cat; Dixie, a Jack Russell Terrier; Bella, a Pit Bull; Chloe, a gray tabby cat; Sasha and Sparky, canine companions; Grace Noir, a Pit Bull; Chato, a Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix; and Lola, a Basset Hound. Honorable mentions were awarded to Aine, a Boxer, and Pepper, a Shepherd mix.

The winners and their heartwarming stories can be viewed on the ASPCA website.
