America’s Top Dog To Visit White House

Westminster winner Uno will spend his third birthday celebrating in the Rose Garden.

How does America’s favorite Beagle spend his birthday? With a special celebration at the White House Rose Garden, of course.

Uno, the first Beagle to win Best in Show at this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, turns 3 years old Monday, May 5. On that day, he’ll be found in the company of President Bush and Mrs. Bush, said David Frei, director of communications for the Westminster Kennel Club.

“We are America’s dog show, and we always say that the winner of our show is America’s dog,” Frei said. “What better testament to that than to be invited to the White House.”

This event marks the first time that a Westminster winner visits the White House, Frei said. Uno’s owners and breeders also will be in attendance, as well as Westminster representatives, including President Peter R. Van Brunt.

Still to come on Uno’s list of high-profile meet-and-greets, Frei said, is a trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, where he’ll ride on a float.
