The “Mile High” city might get a much more important nickname: home of the first Cat Bar.
Denver, Colorado, could have the first bar with cats, according to the Denver Post. Cat café Denver Cat Company might expand to accommodate late nights and adult beverages if a Kickstarter campaign goes well.
Owner Sana Hamelin told the news outlet that customers have been asking for such a spot.
“We have a lot of the young female demographic, and they want to be able to come out and drink wine with their friends and hang out with cats,” Hamelin told the Denver Post.
Makes sense to us.
“We’ve been thinking about this for quite a while, and it seemed very ambitious, but I think it’s time,” Hamelin said to the paper.
And the cats might think it’s time, too, as they kind of come alive at night.
According to the Denver Cat Company’s Yelp page, plenty of proof exists of constantly napping cats. One reviewer noted: “There were 2 cats that I was very fond of but they were sleeping in the window.”
On the Kickstarter page, Hamelin says if she exceeds her $60,000 goal by $5,000, she’ll build an outdoor patio; $15,000 over, and she’ll make an outdoor “catio” for the cats, too.
And now, a note about a public nuisance we are all too familiar with: drunk jerks.
“People have asked me if I’m worried about drunk people harassing cats, and I am not,” Hamelin told the news outlet.
She says she will increase staff on night shifts to keep an eye on the cats. Also, she’s less worried than we are because, as the Post reports her saying, people who want to come to a place like a cat café or bar are respectful of cats in the first place.
Let’s raise a respectful — but keyword “full” — glass to that.
