Amanda Lafond is a freelance writer from Yorktown, Virginia. Lafond’s interest in birds started when she was given a young cockatiel at the age of four and named him Pepper. Growing up as an Air Force brat, Pepper has been with her through multiple moves across different states.
Her cockatiel inspired her to learn as much as she could about parrots, and she spent much of her free time reading any books she could find on birds. Lafond read BIRD TALK from a young age, and often had the posters that were included in the magazine decorating her room. She still has Pepper, and has added seven more birds to her home. Lafond has owned birds for 20 years and runs a blog about her companion birds. She has a B.F.A. in writing from the Savannah College of Art and Design and freelances for multiple sites.
