Highlights of two recent American Kennel Club competitions – the AKC Agility Invitational and the National Obedience Invitational Championship – will be broadcast on Animal Planet on Feb. 11, 15 and 18, 2007.
Held in conjunction with the nationally televised AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, the agility and obedience events showcase a high level of training and teamwork between dog and handler, and are the culmination of thousands of trials held throughout the year.
The competitions took place in Long Beach, Calif., on Dec. 2 and 3, 2006.
Five agility dogs and their owners – one dog-handler team in each of the five height categories – were crowned at the event, which brought together 451 dogs from across the country.
The National Obedience Invitational tests a dog’s ability to perform a prescribed set of obedience exercises on which it is scored. Nearly 100 of the top Obedience Trial Champion pointed dogs in the country competed for the title of AKC National Obedience Invitational Champion.
The airings of the AKC competitions are sandwiched around the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which airs live on the USA cable network on Feb. 12 and 13, 2007.
