The American Kennel Club is looking for a few good dogs to honor during this year’s 9th annual Awards for Canine Excellence.
The ACE Awards recognize dogs who have performed exemplary acts that benefited a community or individual. Last year’s winners include Holly, a Shetland Sheepdog who alerts her owner to seizures, and Ranger, a Labrador Retriever who searched for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Awards are given to five dogs in five categories, including law enforcement, search and rescue, therapy, service, and exemplary companion dog. Honorable Mentions are awarded in each category.
Honorees receive $1,000, an engraved sterling silver collar medallion, and a trip to the December AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach, Calif., for the honoree and his owner to appear at an awards ceremony.
Nominations will be accepted through June 30, and dogs must be an AKC-recognized breed to be considered. For more information or to nominate a dog, visit www.akc.org/news/ace/nominate.cfm
