Chester, a senior rescue dog suffering from terminal cancer, got more than a second chance when he was adopted by Nicole Elliot of Columbus, Georgia.
Abandoned by his previous owner, Chester was rescued from a high kill animals shelter where he then waited for his perfect home at the Animal Ark Rescue. Elliot saw his photos and new it was a match made in heaven. She began making plans for Chester’s final journey to give him the life he never had.
“I never compiled a list. I’ve just gotten some ideas of things I can take him to do,” Elliot told ABC News. “He’s playful at times, but I’m sure with the age and the cancer it slows him down. He is just very sweet and he soaks up any love that you give him.
They’ve spent the day at a lake, ate a hot dog lunch, saw a water stream and had a doggy shopping spree.
“We bought new toys, a bed, bananas, and treats,” she says in her interview with ABC. “I also want to take him on a boat ride, to the beach, and to have professional photographer take pictures of him. I want to have them [photos] after he’s gone.”
Elliot hopes to raise awareness for wonderful senior dogs like Chester, who are available for adoption and waiting to find a wonderful home to spend their final days.
