A three-legged Pit Bull named Levi is being hailed as a hero after protecting his family from an armed burglar.
The masked gunman broke into the Janesville, Washington, home of Levi’s owner, Darcy Cherry, at 6:15 p.m. on January 19 after she and her boyfriend had forgotten to lock the back door, New 3 WISC-TV reports.
“His gun was drawn on us and demanded us to the ground and repeatedly asked us where’s the safe and where is the money,” Cherry told News 3.
The 15-year-old dog reportedly saw the intruder threatening his people and bravely began barking and growling to try and scare him away. Not long after that, the intruder aimed his gun at Levi’s head and pulled the trigger.
Levi survived the bullet, which thankfully ended up only grazing his head and went into his shoulder.
The intruder fled the scene after shooting Levi without taking any tangible items, but he came dangerously close to taking Levi’s life.
And this isn’t even the first time Levi has courageously protected his loved ones.
According to News 3, Levi took a nasty fall off the edge of a trail in 2014 and suffered a shattered leg, which later required a full amputation. Cherry said that Levi protected her son from falling first.
The senior Pit Bull is expected to make a full recovery, while the intruder is still at large. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Janesville Police Department
